Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Product Review

7/29 was National Lipstick Day, which means it’s the perfect time for me to write my review on the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks I received from Influenster for free (in exchange for my honest review). I received two lipsticks, a dark red one (20- Pioneer) and a nude pink (15- Lover).

The first thing I did was swatch the two on my arm. They were definitely pretty colors that I would love to wear!

The brush itself is pretty cool- it’s a flat, round brush with a hole in the middle that dips into the tube.

The product goes on very smoothly and has a very pleasant vanilla-like scent (more so with the pink than the red, for some reason). You don’t need a ton coats to get a nice, even layer.  It’s a bit sticky in the beginning, but that goes away after a few minutes once it dries. It looks shiny for a minute or two, but when the product dries, it’s matte. I’ve been looking for lipsticks that stay on all day (ain’t nobody got time for reapplying), especially for someone like me who is constantly eating, drinking or even just licking my lips. These lipsticks stay put! For some reason, I’ve noticed the pink stays on longer than the red. I’m assuming it’s because a more neutral color so it’s harder to see the imperfections- otherwise, I’m not sure. The red will start peeling off my lips towards the end of the day (I have a bad habit of biting the skin on my lips- gross, I know!) but the pink stays on smoother. Now I’ve noticed that all lipsticks do what I (and I’m sure other people) inappropriately call “butt-hole lips” where the inside of your lips are your normal color but the outside still has the lipstick on it. So as long as I don’t make too many kissy faces, I’m good to go and it’s not noticeable.

        See what I mean?

When they say it’s a “super-stay” product, they mean it! You have to use an oil-based remover to get it off or vigorously scrub it off, which I don’t recommend (not that I’ve tried or anything…). I’ve used both Almay Eye Makeup Remover Pads (I know it’s not eye makeup, don’t judge me!) and Marcelle Micellar Water to get it off.

Before a night out

After a night of food and drinks. Some fading/peeling/”butt-hole” lips, but not terrible!

About 11 AM, looking good!

About 6:45 PM, some bleeding/fading/”butthole” lips, but not terrible!

Even my sister Tia liked the product and she’s pretty picky with her makeup choices! Rightfully so though because she SLAYS! (Side note- follow her on Instagram @tiarosel

Are they perfect? No, but what product is? I wish it would 100% stay on perfectly every moment of every day until I need/want it gone, but I’m not sure that product exists. Would I still recommend this product? YES! Each one is only $7.99 and they are worth every penny. Sometime soon, I am going to stock up on the other colors for my collection. Thank you Maybelline for this awesome product and Influenster for giving me the chance to try it out!
