How to Be a Functioning Human Being on a Rainy (Bad Weather) Day

Hello, my lovely readers! Today’s blog post is about rainy days.

Now some people may love rain, but I’m definitely NOT one of those people. When I wake up in the morning to dreary weather, I instantly want to curl up under my blanket and go back to sleep. My productivity goes out the window; I am thrown off for the whole day.

You might be wondering why… To be honest, I’m not really sure. I’ve just never really liked the rain or the feeling of being wet against my will. So I’m going to list some ways that you (and I) can get over the “rainy day/bad weather blues” and get back to being awesome!

  1. Accept that rain is necessary and something you cannot change.

Yeah, I know, this one sounds like a cop-out, but hear me out: Rain is important to animals, crops, and other aspects of nature. Unless you’ve invented a weather machine (finally!), we humans do not have the power to change the weather. So let’s make a pact to not spend all day in bed the next time it rains!

2. Do something for yourself.

Still have to go to work or school, even though you’re not feeling like it? Make it special: get a little treat for yourself. Maybe a special snack, take a break and play your favorite game, take a nap if possible, have yourself a bubble bath when you get home… whatever you want. Use it as a way to brighten your day and put a smile on your face.

3. Do something for others.

You know that helping others makes them feel good, but did you know it actually is proven to make yourself feel better as well? Live Science talks about a survey conducted that found that people who did something good for someone else felt happier than the ones who took part in “pleasure-seeking behaviors.” Has your best friend been through a rough time lately? Has your mother been asking you to do that chore for a while now? Go ahead and take care of something for someone else in your life. Even better? Go do something nice for a complete stranger!

      4. Set specific goals for the day.

Feeling unproductive and lazy? Make sure you have a list of goals you want to get done for the day so you can keep on task. You can even set a timer with each task so you can get it worked on for a certain amount of time. That way, you can get to everything on your list.

This is a small list of things you can do to get through a rainy day. For those of you out there who love the rain and thrive on these kinds of days… I am envious. Hopefully, with these tips and tricks, we can get through all kinds of bad weather!
